About the Building
The Joe's Crab Shack located in Savannah, GA drew my attention because it is located in a city that i am interesting in opening a business one day and is also located in a very unique part of town. The site is located along river street in downtown Savannah and the building had to follow all of the historical guidelines for the surrounding area. Downtown Savannah has an old southern town look to it and this Joe's Crab Shack follows that look. The building also uses many aspects of construction with CMU walls, wood trusses, brick exterior, steel columns, structural steel, and a detailed kitchen scope. I obtained the drawings of this building from Catamount Constructors while i was working with them during the 2013 summer.
As a mentioned earlier this project is located on River Street in downtown Savannah and it is a single story restaurant. The building is 11,000 square feet and cost a little over two million dollars. The project is located along the Savannah river as well so that meant for a strong erosion control plan that would prevent any pollutant from getting into the river. The highlight of the building is the prefabricated wood trusses that will be exposed in many places for customers to see. Another highlight of the building is the brick veneer that wraps the entire building and has an older look to it. One difference in this project is that the owner has a contractor that they sub a lot of the interior work too and the general contractor just has to schedule them. For example all of the kitchen equipment, toilet accessories, and tables are subcontracted out but i still had to fit them into the schedule even though they do not have a contract with me. This is common in many chain stores to do this but i had to account for them. Overall this Joe's Crab shack is very unique and is a beautiful building in downtown Savannah, GA.
